Stern School of Business

Kaufman Management Center

This all-new structure houses the administrative and academic heart of the Stern School which moved from a location near Wall Street. Stern is considered one of the top ten business schools in the nation and their handsome building marks the center of the NYU, Washington Square campus.

It is evident from the exterior that the generous, lower floors contain the public spaces and classrooms. Windowed corridors and sky-lighted lounges look out at streets and over a plaza. Students can be seen circulating to class and gathering in the lounges, especially at night. The organization brings an air of campus life and activity to this urban setting.

Offices for professors and administrators are located at the highest levels. A total of eleven stories have been stacked above existing classrooms and an existing cogeneration plant below grade. A turn-of-the-century university building abuts the new on the West and many of the floors have been joined to make contiguous areas.

Richard Bonanomi was one of the principal design architects for this structure and the manager of the production team. The Architect of Record was Helpern Architects of New York City.
